SNOW!!!!

So it's snowing pretty much all over Iowa right now, and it's pretty flippin awesome!!! I decided that winter is my favorite time of year today.... it's a pretty good time. I am bored working here in the Admissions office at Simpson College...You can definitely tell everyone including professors are ready for this semester to be over and have a long break. First semester always seems alot harder than 2nd semester and I don't know why. Maybe your just use to it by that point and it's not so hard to get motivated. This semester has definitely been my hardest one thus far, but I heard that alot last year as well. I am thinking next semester should be alot easier. This weekend should be pretty lame, it's going to consist of writing a paper, studying for finals and make sure I pass all my classes!

All the new guys that initiated my fraternity this pass fall will officially become active members after Christmas break, which will be pretty cool. I am just rambling on now..... I better go do something...productive....Later

Dead week, Finals, and Christmas!!!

So dead week is almost over and Finals week is just around the corner. This week has consisted of getting your final exam study guides, stressing out, and writing final papers. Also playing catch up from anything you didn't do all semester, but that never happens here at Simpson, ya whatever. lol I am excited to be done with it thought because that means this little thing called CHRISTMAS BREAK is right around the corner. I can't wait for it. I am ready to be done with this crazy tough semester and start a brand new one! Next semester should be a little bit easier and there should be more time for me just to relax.

Next semester I will also start my office as Recruitment Chair for SAE, my fraternity. I am so excited to start giving back to my fraternity what it has given to me. So if you're interested in Greek Life, I am the guy for you! haha

Thanksgiving break, family, and SNOW!!!!

Right now I am at home, babysitting two of my younger brothers which I haven't done in a very long time, so I am pretty excited about it, crazy I know. We just got back from spending Thanksgiving in Kansas City and St. Joseph Missouri, seeing family I haven't seen in forever! It was alot of fun and my mom even convinced me to get up at 3AM!!!!! and go Christmas shopping with her. It was event let me tell you. Crazy woman climbing shelves int he aisles to grab that last toy, standing outside in lines 300 and 400 people long, and dealing with mean nasty people that have no respect for anyone, but we did survive it and my mom got majority of all of her christmas shopping done. Now we are back home, and my mom is going shopping again today yes i know she is crazy, and i am just having a relaxing day at home before I have to go back to Simpson tomorrow morning. Once I get back to Simpson than I am going to have to buckle down again because there's only 3 weeks till Christmas break, but those are three very busy weeks with Dead Week and Finals Week. Well I better go check on my little brothers, peace out cub scouts!

Paddy Murphy + Delta's fall party = awesome weekend!

So this weekend had to be one of my best weekends this year! Friday night was SAE's Paddy Murphy and we all dressed up like gangsters and danced the night away at the Cub Club in Des Moines. Saturday night was Delta Delta Delta sororities fall party and it was the theme of "Rock the Ages" and I went with a really good friend of mine and dressed up as rockstars. I will let the pictures explain the rest haha.

Fall Parties

This Friday is SAE's Paddy Murphy and it's going to be awesome! We rented out the Cub Club country club in Des Moines and we are taking charter busses up there for a nice dinner and dancing. This is what we call our fraternities fall party. All the guys dress up in gangster, 1950's attire and the girl's dress up with flapper dresses and it's alot of fun! Also this Saturday is Delta Delta Delta sororities fall party and my date and I are going as rockstars!! I don't know exactly what we are going to wear but it should still be alot of fun.
I am getting really excited for Thanksgiving and going home to see the family, which I haven't seen for awhile now.
Also, as i am blogging I should be writing an Anthropology paper that's due next Tuesday. Yes, I may sound like an overacheiver but this is the first time in my college career I have ever been ahead of the game.

Crazy homework, cold weather, papers, Thanksgiving is soon!!

SO this is like the busiest time of the year for most Simpson College students....I got big projects to do and papers coming up that I feel so heavily weighted down by all of it. BUT! it's getting cold outside which I am totally pumped about, that means holidays are closer and I get to see family and Christmas break, duh!

I've really been noticing alot more on campus lately....i'm not creep'n on people or anything but I have been paying a little bit closer attention. I mean, Simpson people are always really friendly but it seems like lately, maybe because of the holidays, that people are alot more friendlier than normal and everyone seems pretty happy for as a crazy time of year it is. A friend of mine from back home came up and toured Simpson yesterday and she said she loved have welcoming everyone was and at home she felt here without actually living here. I think that is so true!

I am going to Kansas State University this weekend to another SAE chapter and sitting in on their initiation and than also on Saturday there is a sorority formal back here at Simpson that I am going to. It's a pretty busy weekend as usual but it's going to be some really good times! Later

HALLOWEEN!

So this year I am not so excited about Halloween, I know that sounds all sad and depressing, BUT I have a test in my Anthropology class at 8AM! tomorrow morning so therefore I can't go out with any of my friends tonight AND my fraternity is having a Halloween party that I will not be able to attend because I am at a study group.....man, the sacrfices I have to make, lol. I guess that's what college is all about. The social life is fun but I am here for school so I guess I can't complain.

This weekend should make up for the crappy week I have had; I am going to a leadership school conference friday and saturday for my fraternity and than Saturday night is my boss, Andy English's wedding. It's going to be crazy!!!! I signed up for next semester classes today....that kind of made me scared because that means I am one more semester closer to graduating and THAT my friend is scary, lol.

Final Thought:

Thanksgiving break is only two and half weeks away...but who's counting? I AM!!!!

Getting back from Fall Break

SO we all just got back from Fall Break and I am pretty sure I can speak for everyone and say that it went by WAY too fast. I enjoyed the 5-day weekend, going home to see the family and old friends and to not have ANY homework to do for just a few days. BUT now it's back to the grind stone to get those grades the best they can be before Finals, which is crazy to think those are only a little over a month away. I got lots of work to do let me tell ya.

Let's see, recently I have been really focusing on my classes and grades because beginning of this year I think I ran Simpson College and all the extra-curricular stuff I was doing so I have cut back on that. I have a wedding to go to this weekend and my fraternity has a leadership school I am going to this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska, and between sorority formals, my formal, Thanksgiving coming up.....I got every weekend in November booked! That's crazy!

It's starting to get cold out here in Iowa now and I loving it! Leaves are turning colors, the smell of Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and the best part of all......snow could come at any time now!!!!! I love when it snows and all my fraternity brothers and girls from around campus get together and go sledding and such, it's alot of fun. Well the homework is screamin my name so I better roll out and I promise not to go three weeks without writing you again, life just gets a little crazy sometimes.

Peace out cub scouts!!!

Homecoming 07'

So last week was Simpson College's Homecoming and I was one of the two Homecoming Chairman! It was an extremely, busy, sleepless, stressful week but I have definitely have seen the benefits of it. I got to plan a car demolition, a powder puff football game, Olympics, Skits, and Yell Like Hell, which all went awesome!

It may seem really easy to coordinate all these things but it definitely tested many of my skills like oraganzing things, being responsible, and being a leader for myself and the people i was directing. I know I have grown from this experience and I am ready for a break! haha

I am sure there will be something else come up soon that will make me busy again, but for now, I am enjoying my down time!

Simpson vs. Central Rivalry

As you ALL probably know or at least should know is we play Central College next week for Homecoming! It's going to HUGE! We have planned so many events going on next week like Olympics and street painting to Skits and powder puff football! And we can not forget Yell Like Hell! We have also introduced something new this year called the Medallion Hunt which has a $250 cash prize if you find the medallion. That's pretty sweet.
Myself and Amanda Yanchury have worked extremely hard as Homecoming Chairmen to put together an awesome week! It's packed full of fun and smashing some tulips!
I hope I see all you Storm fans out there at all the events and definitely the football game on next Saturday!

GO STORM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why choose Simpson?

I think I have been asked this question at least a million times being a Student Ambassador so I felt I should share with you why I am so passionate about Simpson and some of the things I do here.

When your looking at schools to go to for college your obviously thinking about price, location, people, and all that good stuff. I toured all sorts of colleges my senior year and I never really felt as if it was for me. Simpson had been coming to my high school at least 2 or 3 times my senior year so I decided to go visit. As soon as I got there and walked into College Hall I just got this awesome feeling of being comfortable and relaxed and that's where it all starts really. When I finally made my decision to come to Simpson I based it on the fact that when I came here I got a sense from the student body that they were very passionate about the school and everything that went on, I also got that feeling from the administration as well as faculty. I LOVED the small class sizes and super nice professors that I knew I would get to know better with my four years at Simpson. I came back and visited again and it was no doubt in my mind that this was exactly where I wanted to be.

Since I have came here to Simpson I have gotten involved in the greek community. PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America), Jr. Greek recruitment chair, CAB, a Class Senator for Student Government, and Student Support Services. Not only have I obviously gotten smarter here at Simpson (we hope), I feel as if I have figured out who I am, somewhat, lol, as a person and have made the most amazing friends I have ever had. So when your lookiing for colleges, if you just seem to not be able to find the RIGHT ONE, keep lookin, it's definitely out there somewhere!

Greek Recruitment

So finally Formal Greek Recruitment is over with and my house and I can finally take a breather, for like a day. lol We ended up getting 13 new AWESOME guys through formal recruitment and I am so pumped to make them part of our house. It was a long, stressful three weeks but it definitely paid off in the end.

Midterm is coming up so catching up on lab homework, getting notes organized, and reading extra pages of my huge textbooks have become second nature to me. My sophomore year has already felt like it was going by way too fast. I have made some awesome new freshmen friends and the fun just continues to get better. Homecoming is coming up in two weeks and being Homecoming Chairman, that makes it a little stressful on me, but I love the pressure. College is one of those things that yo uwish could last forever, and at Simpson, forever even seems too short. Ya I know thats pretty mushy for me, but it just kinda falls out sometimes. Until next time, stay classy San Diego!

Love'n the weather....love'n Simpson!

So i know it's been about two weeks since I last blogged, but that's because it is so flippin awesome outside and campus is back into full swing! I have been spending alot of my time outside with my fraternity brothers playing frisbee, football, and anything else we can get our hands on. Formal Greek Recruitment starts tonight as well so that is definitely keepin me busy. I love being so busy, ya it takes a toll on me after awhile, but I got to live it up, college goes by way too fast!

I am also this years Homecoming Chairman so I have been working really hard to get Homecoming 07' to be an awesome week! Amanda Yanchury and I have been putting alot of hours into planning and changing Homecoming to make it more fun for everyone on campus! I have also been working really hard to Student Government and Campus Activity Board with just regular beginning of the year things. We just got done inducting the freshmen class student government officers and getting committee heads together for Homecoming.

It all sounds like a big mess and you're probably wondering how I do it all, well my nickname is Superman;) haha you figure it out! Until next time, peace out!!!

College is crazy....

So this week has been pretty stressful for me. It just seems like an overload of homework, work, extra curricular....it's crazy! But I guess I wouldn't really want it any other way.

Tonight is out first CAB (Campus Activity Board) meeting and Student Government meeting. I am really pumped to get this year started off and see what these two awesome organizations can do. I have had alot of freshmen tell me that they want to get involved but they're nervous too because they don't want to be overwhelmed. thats a good idea, but serious, it wouldnt be college if you didn't jam your schedule as full as you possibly could. Well I better role out and go do something productive......until next time....keep it real!

This....is.....the weekend!

Finally, first week of classes is almost mastered, at my fingertips, gone! It's been a crazy week getting all my homework, meeting new professors and people in my classes. I have tackled but I don't know how much longer I can do it guys. Nah, i'm just kidding, I'm doing fine. SO this weekend, my plans? Let's see, tonight is my fraternity brothers soccer game so I think we are going to go cheer him on and than a bunch of us are going to the Funnybone comedy club tonight to see a hypnotist. Than there is the long three day weekend called Labor Day that I plan on being extremely lazy throughout the WHOLE weekend! Well I better get to class, that's the last thing I need to end the first week is being late!

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

So ya......2nd day of classes!

Today was the 2nd day of classes and I'm super stressed out about all the homework I got thrown onto me today. It's really stressfull the first few days getting in the swing of things but I am sure everything will work out fine. I just gotta take it one day at a time and keep up on my reading!
This weekend is Labor Day weekend and I am going and I am pumped! I haven't been home for awhile since I worked in the Admissions office all summer. Well I better get back to the homework. peace out cub scouts!

Cab........do it, all the cool kids do.

So we have this little organization on campus called CAB (Campus Activity Board), its definitely alot of fun and easy to get involved in if your looking for an easy way to get involved on campus and meet tons of people!

We also have this thing called the Stormy Nights program......pretty cool stuff lemme tell ya. Every Friday and Saturday night we have free concerts and comedians, discounted movies at the movie theatre here in town for $2, we also have on Friday nights Midnight Breakfast(which just means that Pfeiffer Dining Hall opens up at midnight and they have a huge breakfast buffet and they will have Bingo in The Grill and they give away awesome prizes! Saturday nights they have some kinda free food in The Grill and they will have karaoke up on the swaure at Signatures Bar and Grill. So what I am trying to say is weekends are the best part of the school year here at Simpson....it makes the weeks go by some much faster, meeting people, haveing fun and obviously just living up college! So if you have any questions about CAB or how to get involved leave me a comment or shoot me an email! See ya later!

Greek Life....why not?!?!

7 out of every 10 people listed in Who's Who are Greek!

3/4 of Congress is Greek!

Greeks run 85% of Fortune 500 Companies

Famous Greeks!
Sheryl Crow
Martin Luther King Jr.
Michael Jordan
Shaquille O'Neal
Bill Cosby
Condoleeza Rice
Ashley Judd

OK, so now that I have given all of you a few cool facts about Greek Life, I want to let you know what Greek Life has done for me here at Simpson. When I moved in the beginning of my freshmen year I knew I wanted to get involved in something, but i didn't know what. I realized the first 3 weeks of classes was what all the Greeks called "Rush." It was alot of fun going down to all the fraternities and meeting the guys and making alot of friends.

Needless to say, a year later I am now an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the larger national fraternity in America! It has been a roller coaster ride, but by far the best decision I have made in my life. I have made better friends through Greek Life than I ever had in college and I also have made more non-greek friends as well. It's a win/win situation!

Here are a list of all the fraternities and sororities on campus as of this fall:
Fraternities Sororities
Sigma Alpha Epsilon Kappa Kappa Gamma
Alpha Tau Omega Delta Delta Delta
Lambda Chi Alpha Pi Beta Phi
Kappa Theta Psi

GO GREEK!

I see cool people on campus!

So, finally students are moving back onto campus. Athletes moved in today, greek students and slowly moving in all week. It's awesome! I can feel the energy of Simpson's campus slowly building as it usually does. I am looking forward to starting classes too crazy enough. I have classes MWF at 9am, 10am, and 11am, so i'm done everyday by noon and on TTH I have class at 8am(BOO!!!!) and 11am so I am done by 1215pm everyday. I am really pumped about all that.

Also this weekend a few friends of mine and I went to the Funnybone Comedy Club in West Des Moines and went to Red Robin to eat. It was great seeing everyone again. I have a friend that leaving to go to London for a semester here in about 2 weeks so that kind of sucks but I know he will have an awesome time. Well I better get back to work here in the Admissions office. See everyone soon! Lata

Simpson Traditions, they're awesome!

So as I sit here thinking about what to blog about, Simpson Traditions came to mind. There are so many things that bring together all of us Simpson students, that make Simpson pretty much amazing.
One thing that they do every year is the Annual Stand Around. It is a bunch of cranival games set up like a mechanical bull, rock climbing wall and many other things. They also hand out t-shirts and other simpson things as they blare a DJ int he background. It is a great time for all Simpson students to come out and "stand around" to catch up and see everyone after the long summer.
Another fun thing that Simpson does at the beginning of the year is Greek students help all the incoming freshmen move in to Barker and Kresge that Saturday. It's an awesome way for incoming freshmen to meet upperclassmen and vice versa. If you want to know of any other Simpson Traditions or fun upcoming events this fall feel free to comment on my blog! C ya Later!

Iowa Private College Week

Hey everyone-
So this week is Iowa Private College Week, and it's been pretty much amazing. I have seen several friends I haven't seen all summer, seeing alot of prospective families and students, and also seeing a bunch of my professors. I mean yeah it is pretty hott outside and somedays this week it has even rained on us giving tours, but hey, it's worth it.

I am also working at Signature's Bar & Grill at night as well and I think I am going to keep doing that this fall. It's a really good time and I like the people I work with. I realized today I have alot of stuff to finish up before everyone moves back onto campus. I got to get ready for events coming up, fraternity stuff, and classes. I think my class schedule will be pretty easy this fall. I guess we'll find out! See ya later!

Starting this fall!

Hey everyone-
I am so pumped about this fall starting it's ridiculous. Well let me tell you a little bit of whats going on in my life right now. I just got back moved in to my Fraternity (SAE) because I lived on campus all summer working in the Admissions Office as a Student Ambassador. My fraternity means alot to me, so it's kind of a big deal.

I am trying to get more involved this fall, I was pretty involved last year but now that I am more comfortable with things I want to do more. My other buddies from my fraternity move-in in about 2 weeks, which is just flippin awesome.

I won't write you guys too long of a blog to start out with, but feel free to shoot me emaisl with questions or whatever! I'm going to try to blog everyday, so check back as much as you can!
